About the trainers

JEAN WATSON  B.A.  M.Sc. Dip.Ed.  Cert.Educ.Man.  M.St in MBCT.

Jean Watson is the director and founder of Mindfulness Matters. Having graduated with a Masters degree in Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), from Oxford University in England, Jean is an internationally accredited mindfulness consultant and trainer who has a particular interest in education, sport and health.

As a professional school teacher, she has taught in the classroom (biology) for more than 20 years and has extensive experience in the teaching, pastoral and management side of education, at a senior level. Jean has taught many mindfulness courses for teachers, children, parents and the general public, within an educational framework in both Australia and the United Kingdom. She has also run mindfulness programmes for county and national sports players and other elite sports players – individually and in groups. Jean has taught business leaders in the city of London.

Jean is passionate about start-up mindfulness training; helping school teachers and sports coaches to develop their own mindfulness practice so that they can go onto further training to teach others. Her dream is to see mindfulness as part of all school teacher and sports coaches training programmes. As a parent herself; of a national sports player, Jean can also see the advantages of using mindfulness within family contexts and runs courses for parents, grandparents and the general public.

 

Jean has a personal interest in education and sport and has practised mindfulness for many years. She is helping to implement and develop programmes for the Mindfulness in Schools Project in Australia and in the UK (http://mindfulnessinschools.org/) which is endorsed by Oxford University (http://oxfordmindfulness.org/) and she will be helping train school teachers in the UK as part of the MYRIAD program (www.oxfordmindfulness.org/mindfulness-resilience-adolescence). She has taught mindfulness, to several thousand people, at all levels: taster, beginner, intermediate and advanced courses including: MBCT, .b for Teens, .b Foundations, Paws b, Mindfulness in Sport and Mindfulness in the Frantic World. Jean also runs urban retreats for teachers, sports coaches and business leaders as well as the general public.

Jean is trained to teach and implement MBCT for the National Health Service in England. She has taught NHS Health Visitor Lecturers at Canterbury Christ Church University in the UK and Health lecturers at the Royal University of Bhutan- where she also trained as a Gross National Happiness teacher. Jean was  also invited by the Bhutanese government to help develop the holistic approach to educational assessment.
